Simone Biles, gymnastics legend and defending Olympic champion, withdrew from Thursday’s individual all-around competition at the Olympic Games, citing mental health and well-being reasons.
The decision came a day after Biles withdrew from the team final following a mishap on the vault.
USA Gymnastics said in a statement, “After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games, in order to focus on her mental health.”
USA Gymnastics said that Biles’ decision to participate in next week’s individual events would be the result of further evaluations.
