Athletes from McDowell and Fairview were the top vote-getters in this week’s Erie Times-News Erie County Athlete of the Week polls.
McDowell football player Christian Santiago, cross country runner Kamden Kramer, and Fairview golfer Cora Hirz were the winners during online voting from Monday through Wednesday. More than 5,400 votes were cast in 48 hours.
Here’s a look at the Erie County Athletes of the Week:
Football Player of the Week
Christian Santiago, McDowell: He scored the Trojans’ touchdown for their overtime possession and then recorded a fourth down sack of Bennett’s quarterback to clinch a dramatic 34-28 victory vs. their Buffalo opponent.
Santiago received 533 (25.3%) of the 2,105 total votes. Fairview’s Tyler Corbin, at 401 (19.1%), was second.
Male Athlete of the Week
Kamden Kramer, McDowell cross country: The sophomore, with a first-place time of 16 minutes, 15.74 seconds, also helped the Trojans win the team title of their meet at Brown’s Farm.
Kramer won with 515 (19.8%) of the overall 2,603 votes. Fairview golfer Anthony Laboda, at 307 (11.8%), was second.
Female Athlete of the Week
Cora Hirz, Fairview: Her nine-hole round of 44 at North East’s Lake View Country Club was the lowest for the Tigers when they won a District 10 region mega-match for the first time in team history.
Hirz, at 360 votes (13.1%), won the poll by seven. There were 2,730 overall.
Cathedral Prep soccer player Callie Cacchione was a second at 351 (12.9%).
